RISK PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR — 2021

Nancy Mckenzie
Risk Manager, City of Arlington

Nancy McKenzie has served with the City of Arlington since 2013. As Risk Manager she is responsible for all risk management services on behalf of the city and manages a team of three, which includes a Risk Specialist, Safety Specialist, and HR Assistant. Nancy has a broad understanding of the risk and insurance industry. She started her career as a sales trainee working with personal lines clients. She then transitioned to claims, where she spent the next 11 years in various roles working with clients. From 1991-2000 she was a Special Risk Consultant for Brady, Chapman, Holland & Associates, supervising agency claim staff, building risk services, and handling insurance for a beloved Texas hamburger chain.

From 2000-2005 she worked for John L Wortham & Son as Underwriting Technician managing a book of professional and management liability business consisting of mid-size private companies, non-profits, and public entities.

Building on her prior experiences, Nancy began her public risk management career in 2005 with the City of Fort Worth as a Senior Risk Management Analyst where she supervised a staff responsible for the investigation and resolution of all liability claims against the city, as well as pursuit of subrogation from other responsible parties. She implemented a new risk management information system, assisted with procurement, reviewed contracts to advise on risk exposures, and worked closely with the city’s safety staff to analyze risk management issues and increase awareness of effective risk management policies.

Since joining the City of Arlington in 2013 she has coordinated over-site of the city’s third-party administrator and adjusting staff, managing auto, liability, subrogation, and workers’ compensation claims. Her team manages City safety programs and administers the City’s drug & alcohol program. She also acts as a consultant to City departments on any risk related issues to include exposures, loss prevention, contracts, and event permits.

Nancy holds Texas All Lines Adjuster and Risk Manager licenses, the Associate in Risk Management for Public Entity (ARM-P) designation and has been a member of Texas PRIMA since 2010.
